Sept. 17

  • Fly from USA to Quito, arriving in the evening
  • Transfer to Wyndham Hotel by the airport

Sept. 18

  • Morning flight to the Galapagos Islands
  • Transfer to our small 16-passenger cruise yacht, the Majestic
  • Visit El Junco Lagoon on San Cristobal Island
  • Overnight on the Majestic
  • All meals included on our cruise
  • Every day in the Galapagos will include walks on the islands, zodiac trips to and around the islands and snorkeling off both the Majestic and the shores of the islands to see the dazzling array of rays, sharks, tropical fish and giant sea turtles.

Sept. 19

  • Visit Floreana Island, including Post Office Bay, Cormorant Point and Devil's Crown to see the thousands of birds, including cormorants, blue-footed boobies, flamingos, frigate birds and albatross, among many other beautiful birds, sea lions, iguanas, and, if we keep a sharp lookout, giant land tortoises.

Sept. 20

  • Cruise to Espaniola Island, with its thousands of birds, where we will spend the day at Suarez Point, Gardner Islet, Osborn Islet and Gardner Bay

Sept. 21

  • Day at Santa Cruz Island, with ground visits to the Twin Craters and the fascinating Fausto Llerena Interpretation Center. Santa Cruz is the capital of the Galapagos Islands, home also to a tortoise breeding center, which we'll visit, and a small town where we can wander through shops and use the internet.

Sept. 22

  • This day we'll spend at Genovesa, perhaps our favorite island. It's a birders' paradise, with boobies, the small Galapagos owl, and many more species. We'll also see playful sea lions, iguanas large and small, and a beautiful, rocky island surrounded by the blue, blue sea

Sept. 23

  • The tiny volcanic islands of Rabida and Chinese Hat are on the itinerary for this day. These are the only islands where we'll see the Galapagos Penguin.

Sept. 24

  • Back in San Cristobal, we'll visit Witch Hill and Lobos Island as well as this island's Interpretation Center. We'll see a Giant Land Tortoise sanctuary where we can get close to these huge, lumbering creatures.

Sept. 25

  • We'll be in port overnight, so will spend some time in San Cristobal in the morning before heading to the airport for our flight to Quito.
  • Lunch on your own in San Cristobal before transfer to airport for afternoon flight back to Quito
  • Late afternoon arrival in Quito
  • Transfer to the Wyndham Airport Hotel
  • B

Sept. 26

  • Transfer to airport for short flight over the Andes to Coca, a busy oil town in the Amazon Basin
  • Lunch included
  • Transfer via private canoes down river to Sacha Lodge on Lake Pilchicocha, arriving late afternoon
  • Dinner included at the Lodge
  • After dinner, guided walking tour through the rain forest or boat trip on the lake
  • Overnight at Sacha Lodge

Sept. 27

  • Day for seeing the rain forest on hiking trails and a canopy walk above the treetops
  • Overnight at the Sacha Lodge
  • B,L,D

Sept. 28

  • Day in the Amazon, hiking or canoeing on Lake Lagartococha to see the amazing variety of flora and fauna that teem throughout the Amazon Basin. Learn more about the beliefs and lives of native Amazonian people
  • Late afternoon canoe trip through the flooded forest to view the animals, enjoying the Amazonian sunset from the Lodge's private viewing tower above the forest
  • Overnight at the Sacha Lodge

Sept. 29

  • Depart from Sacha Lodge for our boat trip back to Coca and flight to Quito
  • Transfer to Casa Gangotena Hotel on a lovely plaza in the heart of the old city
  • Lunch on your own
  • Afternoon free
  • Dinner included.
  • Overnight at Casa Gangotena

Sept. 30

  • Early departure from Quito to the south of Ecuador through the "Avenue of Volcanoes" to visit the Cotopaxi National Park surrounding the Cotopaxi volcano, one the most active volcanoes in the world. From there, we'll go to La Cienega Hacienda and the Ecuadorian Roses Plantation to see the different kinds of roses and learn about the whole production process.
  • Lunch included at La Cienega Hacienda, one of Ecuador's oldest colonial haciendas, over 400 years old
  • Return to Quito in the late afternoon
  • Dinner on your own
  • Overnight at Casa Gangotena

Oct. 1

  • Morning city tour of Quito to see the beautiful old colonial center of this charming city
  • Lunch on your own
  • Afternoon optional visit to Cruz Loma, a 14,000 foot high mountain overlooking Quito, via the Teleferico (cable car)
  • Closing dinner before we take our bus to the airport for late night flight home to the USA

  • Arrive in the USA
