Lake Nahel Huapi, Patagonia, Argentina

We will arrive in the morning in Buenos Aires, the Paris of South America with its wide boulevards, great European architecture, restaurants and neighborhoods, such as Recoleta, that seem like Paris (including a similar historic cemetery where Eva Peron is buried). We will have three nights to explore such lovely city sites as Casa Rosada (the Presidential Palace), Plaza San Martin and Palermo, a neighborhood of beautiful parks. We will also walk in the great immigrant neighborhoods of La Boca, originally a shipyard and now an artists’ center, and San Telmo, Buenos Aires oldest neighborhood, now with many antique shops surrounding Plaza Dorrego. A memorable dinner and tango show is included.

On day 4, we will fly to El Calafate, in the far south of Argentina, on the shore of Lago Argentino and gateway to the famous Perito Moreno Glacier and Los Glaciares National Park. Over the next two days we will confront the 200 foot high face of the glacier which is almost three miles across, hike along the shore on Peninsula Magallanes, and join a boat journey to the neighboring Upsala and Spegazzini glaciers.

It is a short flight from El Calafate to San Carlos de Bariloche, a year round playground for skiers, hikers and fisherman from around the world. Bariloche is in the center of Nahuel Huapi National Park and sits on a huge lake of the same name. There are a week’s worth of activities and we will have two days. Our lodging will be the world famous Llao Llao Hotel and Resort, with a stunning location on a peninsula overlooking the lakes and mountains, and with its own golf course. We will assist with optional excursions for hiking, biking, shopping in Bariloche or relaxing at the Llao Llao spa.

On day 9, we will return to Buenos Aires for a late evening connection back to the USA.
